MAPTINT FIELD NOTES

Make a map you can update.

1. Choose a category, then a state.

Open the editor. Select a category, change its color or label, and click states on the map or in the searchable list. Use the list for DC and small states. Alaska and Hawaii use insets.

2. Set the title and legend.

Edit titles and category labels. Move categories up to change legend order. Undo/redo and reset view help with edits. Turning off state abbreviations gives you a cleaner graphic.

3. Export the result.

PNG 1600 and 3200 are free. SVG retains paths and text. Download JSON to keep editable settings in your own files. If a large PNG cannot be created, try the smaller size or SVG. Local JSON imports must be MapTint configurations, at most32 KiB.

4. Save settings for another browser.

Sign in from Your maps, then use Save to account in the editor. Reopen from the saved library in another signed-in browser. A local draft belongs to its current browser; it is not automatically uploaded. Conflicting saves offer reload or save-as-new instead of silently replacing the other session.

5. Share only when you choose.

A share link exposes the saved title, legend and colors to anyone who has it. They can copy settings into their own editor. Revoking closes the link but cannot remove copies already made.

What do the limits mean?

Free has3 saved configurations and10 solidcolors; Pro has1,000 / 1,000. A map has up to64 legend entries and32 KiB of configuration data. Free allows100 successful saves per UTC day, Pro1,000; both allow30 per minute. Exports remain available without an account.

Can I use the output as an official map?

The output is illustrative and based on Natural Earth data. It is not an official boundary, surveying or navigation document. Check suitability and applicable publication requirements.
